We drive to Mihintale: It is a mountain peak near Anuradhapura and one of the oldest Buddhist places in Sri Lanka. It is believed to be the site, where the Buddhist monk Mahinda meets king Devanampiyatissa, who allowed the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka

Day 2
Anuradhapura - Trincomalee

Visit temples and ruins at Anuradhapura – the capital of ancient kingdom Rajarata. Around 100 after Christ, Anuradhapura belonged to the 10 biggest cities in the world with around 130.000 inhabitants.

See Kalu Diya Pokuna near Mihintale – an old lake and beautiful place to rest. The pond surrounded by large boulders and small archaeology sites, the shadow of surrounding trees give this lake its name “Black water”.

We drive east to Trincomalee and enjoy at Nilaveli beach.

If you like, you can do a snorkeling-boat-tour to the Pigeon Island National Park around 1 kilometer off the coast near Nilaveli. It is one of the two marine National-Parks of Sri Lanka. The island's name derives from the rock pigeon and the Park contains some of the best remaining coral reefs of Sri Lanka

Trincomalee - Polonnaruwa

We drive to Polonnaruwa and visit temples and ruins – it is one of the ceylonese capital cities, surrounded by a fertile landscape. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site. If you like you can do an elephant riding

Sigiriya - Nationalpark

You can climb up Sigiriya Rock and observe the Frescos and Fortress - best time is 7. 30AM

Visit Minneriya or Kawdulla Nationalpark in the evening to see real wild elephants – you can expect to observe big herds of 150 to 200 elephants with babies

Dambulla - Kandy

See Dambulla cave temples - UNESCO world heritage since 1991

On the way to Kandy we have a stop at Matale and see the Sri Muthumariamman Temple – built in 1874 and used by Hindus and Buddhists

Kandy

Visit the Kandy Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa Temple) - which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha in a wide complex of the royal palace of the former kingdom of Kandy

Visit Bhairava Kandy Temple – these sculptures are believed to protect against greed, lust and anger in Hinduism

Enjoy over 4.000 species of plants at Peradeniya Botanical Garden near Kandy - including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees

If we have time, we visit the National Railway Museum near Kandy – a must for every railway fan with exhibitions of gas lamps, tablet machines and tools to steam or diesel locomotives and coaches

Day 9
Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

We travel to Nuwara Eliya and see the Ramboda waterfalls

Visit a tea plantation and factory - the biggest and most famous companies settle around Kandy

We show you colonial places at Nuwara Eliya - often called ‘Little England’, because it was one of the favored cool-climate places to escape the heat. We will have a city-tour and see ancient buildings, Gregory lake, nice bungalows and pretty gardens

Day 10
Nuwara Eliya - Ella

You can go hiking at Horton plains – a wonderful landscape at an altitude von more than 2.000 meters above sea-level. Three major Sri Lankan rivers, the Mahaweli, Kelani and Walawe rise from here.Most spectacular is „Worlds end“, a famous cliff with a drop down hundreds of meters.

In the afternoon (3.00PM) you will have a wonderful train-journey from Nanu Oya (near Nuwara Eliya) to Ella – and see the phantastic landscape around. We drop you to the station Nanu Oya, take all your luggage and pick you up at Ella again.

Day 11
Ella - Yala Nationalpark

Climb Small Adams Peak and enjoy the wonderful view – an easy walk up

On the way to Yala you can see Rawana waterfall

See ancient Buduruwagala buddhist temple with its seven statues

In the evening or next morning you enjoy a jeep-safari at Yala Nationalpark - the oldest park near the Indian Ocean in the south. Yala is famous for its variety of wild animals, especially srilankan elephants and leopards, as well as bears, birds, apes and crocodiles.

Yala - Mirissa

We start to Mirissa, on the way you can relax at Thangalle beach

Visit Matara Island Temple - the walk over the bridge with water around and high waves is an amazing experience and later you have a great view back to the coast

Have a funny trip and see water shooting high up out of a small opening in a rock, the Hummanaya blow hole – considered to be the second largest blow hole in the world

Day 13
Mirissa

If u like u can do a Whale-Watching-Tour starting at Mirissa: Whales and dolphins gather around the south-coast of Sri Lanka the whole year, because the sea offers rich food supply

Day 14
Mirissa - Galle

We start to Galle and visit a Sea-turtle-farm – home of different kinds of sea turtles. It is a conservation project, which releases young or wounded turtles to the wild, when they are fit enough again

See Stilt fishermen at Koggala with their traditional fishing-method – unique for Sri Lanka

Visit Galle Dutch Fort – built from 1588 on from Portuguese and Dutch colonialists. Have a walk around and visit all the reconstructed places. After that we discover the vibrant city.

Climb Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaja – a small cave-temple more than 1.500 years old with an ancient Budha statue, slowly fading Wall Murals opening a window to srilankan history and a Bodhi Tree

Day 15
Galle - Colombo

We drive to Madu lake, where you’ll get a scenic cruise along the river, passing dozens of islets and endless aeras of green mangrove trees. If you are interested in a challenge, you can have some fun and get a fishfoot-therapy on the spot

Blue Moonstones anywhere in the world usually originate in Sri Lanka – at our coast we have the world’s primary source of the wonderful blue gems. We visit a mine, where people work in a few waterlogged pits and take out moonstones by hand like in former times
