Day 1

Colombo - Sigiriya

• Pick up from Bandaranayke International Airport

• Climb Pidurangala rock – where you have an spectacular view of the famous fortress of Sigiriya

• See Dambulla cave temples - UNESCO world heritage since 1991

• Watch peaceful Lori monkeys at Sigiriya at night time

• Overnight at Sigiriya

 

Day 2

Nationalpark - Aukana

• Visit Sigiriya Rock and observe the Frescos and Fortress - best time is 7. 30AM

• Safari at Minneriya or Kawdulla Nationalpark to see real wild elephants

• See the impressing Aukana Buddha statue – more than 12 meters tall and carved out of a large granite rock during the 5th century

• Overnight at Sigiriya

 

Day 3

Sigiriya - Anuradhapura

• Visit temples and ruins at Anuradhapura – the capital of ancient kingdom Rajarata. Around 100 after Christ, Anuradhapura belonged to the 10 biggest cities in the world with around 130.000 inhabitants

• Visit Polonnaruwa ancient ruins – one of the ceylonese capital cities, surrounded by a fertile landscape. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site

• Overnight at Anuradhapura

 

Day 4

Anuradhapura - Kandy

• Have an elephant-ride at Dambulla

• Enjoy a herbal massage

• We drive to Kandy and visit the Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa Temple) - which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha in a wide complex of the royal palace of the former kingdom of Kandy

• Overnight at Kandy

 

Day 5

Kandy

• Enjoy over 4.000 species of plants at Peradeniya Botanical Garden near Kandy - including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees

• Have a Kandy City-tour and see a Dance-show

• Overnight at Kandy

 

Day 6

Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

• Visit a tea plantation and factory - the biggest and most famous companies settle around Kandy

• See Ramboda water-falls

• We drive to Nuwara Eliya, often called ‘Little England’, because it was one of the favored cool-climate places to escape the heat. We will have a city-tour and see colonial buildings, Gregory lake, nice bungalows and pretty gardens

• Overnight at Nuwara Eliya

 

Day 7

Nuwara Eliya - Ella

• Train Journey from Nuwara Eliya to Ella. You will enjoy some relaxed hours watching the beautiful landscape in a historic train. We drop you to the station Nanu Oya, take all your luggage and pick you up at Ella again.

• Climb Small Adams Peak and enjoy the wonderful view – an easy walk up. And see Nine Arch bridge built like a viaduct - it is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in our country

• Overnight at Ella

 

Day 8

Ella - Yala Nationalpark

• Walk around Ella city – situated in a cool climate around 1.000 meters above sea-level. Ella is surrounded by hills covered with cloud forest and tea plantations.

• See ancient Buduruwagala buddhist temple with its seven statues

• We travel to Yala Nationalpark and have a jeep-safari – the oldest park near the Indian Ocean in the south. Yala is famous for its variety of wild animals, especially srilankan elephants and leopards, as well as bears, birds, apes and crocodiles.

• Overnight at Mirissa

 

Day 9

Mirissa - Galle - Colombo

• Visit Ussangoda Nationalpark – the newest park and an important breeding ground for sea turtles. You will wonder about the red soil and the small vegetation – reason ist he strong sea breeze at the south-side of Sri Lanka

• Visit Matara Island Temple - the walk over the bridge with water around and high waves is an amazing experience and later you have a great view back to the coast

• See Stilt fishermen at Koggala with their traditional fishing-method – unique for Sri Lanka

• Visit Galle Dutch Fort – built from 1588 on from Portuguese and Dutch colonialists. Have a walk around and visit all the reconstructed places

• Drop to your preferred hotel or Bandaranayke International Airport
